My life as an active musician began at the age of 13, I formed my first band the same year, a progressive rock band ‘prohibition’ and began gigging in local pubs and venues a year later. This was to become my main band for 6 years. I was involved with several side projects including ‘Monkey Puzzle’ a funk dance band which became well established in the south. I passed Grade 8 with distinction at the end of sixth form. I then gained a scholarship at the University of the West of England studying Creative Music Technology and left these projects behind. It was here that I started composing solo bass pieces, which later evolved into my duo Psycho-Acoustic Goat.
Since moving to Bristol I have performed at many shows, solo and with a variety of different bands. I have made extensive use of the studio equipment recording my own projects and other artists. I have also gained a high understanding of a variety of creative software such as logic, pro tools and final cut pro. Together with this I have been given a sound grounding in programming languages C and Max/MSP.
I was awarded best final year project from the University for my first tuition book ‘Advanced Bass Tuition’ and I received a bursary to get this printed and released which is Available in independent music shops including Mickleburgh, Opus 13 and Cars & Guitars as well as Amazon and through my website. Since graduating with 1st class Hons, I have toured extensively around the UK, Europe and Australia as a session player for Steelyard Blues, a soloist and a co founder of Shambolique a theatrical funk band. I continue to play with a variety of bands as well as leading my own projects ‘Mammoth Toe’ and ‘Psycho-Acoustic goat’
“Marcus is a fantastic teacher. He is incredibly knowledgable in his field and can teach theory/practice at all levels. He has always been reliable, prompt, supportive, encouraging and very patient. He has got good problem solving skills and has always found a solution suited to my learning style/needs when necessary. My bass playing has improved dramatically since I started lessons 6 months ago and would recommend him wholeheartedly.”

“Marcus has been teaching our son bass guitar for the last six months. Marcus has always been on time, polite and pleasant to welcome into our family home. As well as being an effective teacher, our son reports that Marcus has made the lessons fun and interesting. Marcus clearly has an easy natural approach with young people, ensuring that his lessons are both enjoyable and informative. Marcus is clearly also an excellent musician and is able to inspire a love of music in the students he teaches. I would be very happy to recommend Marcus as a teacher for any friends or colleagues looking for bass guitar teachers.”
